Real estate has a funny way of teaching us lessons that apply to just about everything in life. Here are a few reflections I’ve been sitting with lately that might resonate with you, whether you’re buying, selling, or just thinking about your next chapter.

On Lifestyle vs. Labels

A lot of people get wrapped up in words like “starter home” or “dream home.” But the real win is choosing a home that matches the lifestyle you want. Do you want mornings with coffee on a quiet porch? A backyard for kids or dogs to run? A shorter commute so you can reclaim an hour of your day? Forget the label. Focus on the life.

On Mistakes and Next Plays
Some choices—like neighborhoods and price points—are harder to undo than others. That’s why guidance matters on the front end. But even if something doesn’t go the way you planned, it’s not the end of the world. Shift to “next-play mode.” What’s the best move from here? Forward is always available.

On Expectations
Most frustrations in real estate (and life) come from unspoken expectations. Whether it’s with your spouse, your lender, or your agent—clarity beats assumption every single time. Say what you want, ask the questions, and don’t be shy about it. Communication is the shortcut to less stress.
