AI Isn’t the Problem… But How We Use It Might Be

Lifestyle Meghan Pelley April 14, 2026

Lately, I’ve been having a lot of conversations about AI, literally everywhere with everyone at least it seems this way.At first I was using AI all the time for everything, it’s so convenient and really catered to my ever wondering mind, if I had a question I’d just pop it into AI and it will give you an answer, unsure about how to handle a situation that you’re in, ask AI and get some "sage" advice, what could be wrong with that? Possibly nothing but as I really thought about it more, possibly a lot.AI isn’t the enemy… but it is a tool and just like a hammer it can be used to build a house or smash in someone’s kneecaps in :face_with_peeking_eye:And right now, we’re seeing it everywhere especially in real estate, business, and content creation and even connection. The bigger question isn’t what AI can do. It’s what we’re willing to give up to use it.

Let’s talk about value and why it matters for peopleHere’s something I think we all need to be more aware of, if someone provides value, they deserve to be paid for it. There is real value in streamlining a process and procedure ultimately getting you to your final goal quicker, it’s no different than paying for convenience because time is the one resource you can’t replenish, when it’s gone, it’s gone so use it wisely. We’re entering a time where it’s becoming easier to:
  • Skip professionals
  • Ask AI for “free advice”
  • Or try to negotiate everything down to the lowest possible cost
But let me ask you this, do we really want to live in a world where the people we trust can’t make a living? What does society look like when only a few select people hold all the wealth, information and your attention? How do yo know that the advice you’re receiving is really in line with your unique goals and desires.Because I know with regards to real estate when you choose to
  • Work with a great lender
  • Hire a skilled inspector
  • Use an experienced agent
  • A knowledgeable title company
  • Or trust an attorney
You’re not just paying for a service you’re investing in
  • Experience
  • Judgment
  • Advocacy
  • Your protection but also protection for the global economy which is good for everyone, not just a select few
AI can assist with information and can give you the tools to streamline your questions to your trusted professional but it cannot replace responsibility, expertise, and tried and true work from a pro. And yet, here it is such young technology replacing jobs at massive scale.

My take on AI (the real pros & cons)What I love:
  • It helps me organize ideas faster
  • It can streamline marketing and communication
  • It’s incredible for brainstorming and efficiency
  • It saves time on repetitive tasks
Where I’m cautious:
  • It can remove human connection if we let it, lets not let it
  • It can create overconfidence without true expertise, question what you receive and use it as a launch pad to enhance you’re own creativity and thoughts
  • It encourages shortcuts instead of mastery, don’t be lazy y’all, it’s not a desirable trait and people can see through it!
  • It can blur what’s real vs. generated and it’s getting better every day at doing this, the near future will look very different.
And maybe the biggest one…:point_right: It can slowly disconnect us from each other.

The convergence we should be paying attention toSocial media is designed to capture your attention but AI is designed to capture your attachment. Now those two worlds are merging and if we’re not intentional we risk replacing conversations with prompts, relationships with automation and creativity with convenience which isn’t really creativity at all. That’s not a trade I’m personally willing to make, it took me a long time to find my voice and I’m not about to give it up to a machine.

How I actually use AI (The “Meghan Pelley Method”)I don’t avoid AI—I use it strategically.
  • To enhance my initial ideas not replace my voice
  • To move faster but not cut corners
  • To support my clients but never substitute real expertise
Because in real estate and most things in lifeNuance matters. Strategy matters. People matter. You matter, helping you see what your desired outcome looks like matters and that’s what a trusted advisor does.

Where AI stops and professionals beginAI can:
  • Draft a contract
  • Estimate a price
  • Suggest a strategy
But it cannot:
  • Negotiate under pressure
  • Read the room
  • Protect you in a complex transaction
  • Or take responsibility when things go sideways and pivot to figure out a solution
That’s why professionals whether it’s agents, attorneys, lenders aren’t going anywhere. The good ones will actually become more valuable let’s stick together to keep the authenticity, our economy and the value of being a human alive.
