Best Summer Fun in San Antonio and Beyond for 2026

Lifestyle Meghan Pelley July 1, 2026

Summer in San Antonio hits different. It's hot, it's alive, and there is SO much to do whether you've got kids, a crew, or just a free Saturday afternoon.

I put together this list from some of my favorite local resources, and I even shot a video going over a few of these.

📺 Watch it below:

Let's get into it.

Big Fun for the Whole Family

SeaWorld & Aquatica San Antonio are basically two for one. You can hit both parks in one day or grab a 2 day pass and really make a weekend of it. Aquatica has rides AND animals where else can you float past stingrays?

Six Flags Fiesta Texas has White Water Bay right inside the park. Waterslides, a wave pool, and yes a waterslide/roller coaster combo it's a great way to cool off and have fun outside.

The DoSeum is free from 5:30–7:30pm on select evenings. Perfect if you're watching the budget but still want to do something cool with the kids. If you've never been, it's a unique immersive experience for all ages.

Natural Bridge Caverns (just up the road in New Braunfels) is underground magic. It stays cool down there even in July, um yes please! There's so much to do on the premises as well and if you don't feel like leaving the a/c of your car check out the wildlife safari. It's pretty cool, but watch those ostriches they look mean and they'll stick their head in your car looking for food.

Free or Nearly Free Ways to Beat the Heat

San Antonio has more free fun than people realize:

  • San Pedro Springs Pool — oldest park in Texas. Free swim.
  • Yanaguana Garden at Hemisfair — playgrounds, shade, splash pad, great vibes! grab a cold beverage and wander around, there's games for adults and kids. There's a craft paleta (aka popsicle) shop on the grounds.
  • Free summer movies at Travis Park and Mission Marquee Plaza
  • Museum free days:
    • Witte Museum (Tuesdays 3–8pm)
    • McNay Art Museum (Thursdays 4–9pm)
    • San Antonio Museum of Art (Tuesdays 4–9pm)
  • Pearl Farmers Market — Saturdays 9am–1pm, Sundays 10am–2pm. Best people & dog watching in the city.
  • The Rock @ La Cantera — Events all summer long like free movies, work out events, FIFA World Cup & NFL Draft watch parties! There's always a splash pad to beat the heat, food and drinks and it's just a great place to show your respect to the badass San Antonio Spurs!

Hill Country Day Trips (30–90 Minutes Out)

When you need to get out of the city, the Hill Country delivers every time.

  • Guadalupe River State Park — swim, tube, canoe. Genuinely one of the most beautiful spots in Texas.
  • Jacob's Well in Wimberley — crystal clear, 68 degrees year-round. Book ahead, it fills up fast.
  • Canyon Lake — 7 parks, beaches, swimming, boating. This is your backyard, use it.
  • Enchanted Rock near Fredericksburg — short but steep hike, stunning views. Go early before it gets hot. There's even a little cave to check out when you get off the rock.
  • Schlitterbahn in New Braunfels — voted best waterpark in the world. Enough said.

If you want something extra special, check out Hamilton Pool Preserve about 45 minutes outside Austin — a 45-foot waterfall into a natural pool. Reservations required.

Ice Cream Stops You Need to Know

Because it's summer and you deserve it.

Right here in Bulverde/Spring Branch:

  • Confetti and Cream
  • Ice Cream de Texas

Both local favorites.

In San Antonio:

  • Lick Honest Ice Creams at the Pearl is always a hit.
  • Paciugo Gelato at Alamo Heights if you want something a little fancy.

My family loves Handles Ice Cream just around the corner from Elsewhere Too which is also fun!

In New Braunfels:

  • Tipsy Cow
  • Scoop Street

Both worth the detour after a day on the river.

4th of July — Right Around the Corner!

America's 250th birthday this year it's going to be a big one.

Here's what's happening locally:

  • Helotes Independence Day Celebration — July 3rd, FREE, gates open 6pm at Helotes Festival Grounds
  • Hill Country Fun Fest in Spring Branch — July 3rd, live music + fireworks
  • Six Flags Star Spangled Nights — July 3–4, fireworks set to patriotic music
  • Boerne Fireworks — July 4th, 9:15pm, free at Kendall County Fairgrounds
  • New Braunfels 4th of July Parade — 9:15am downtown, followed by the HEB Fireworks Spectacular at Landa Park
  • Schertz 4th of July Jubilee — two-day event, Josh Abbott Band, parade, 5K, carnival

Pick one.

Or two.

Just get out there!

More Hidden Gems Worth Your Time

  • Tejas Rodeo in Bulverde — Saturdays through November. Bull riding, live music, dancing under the stars. Doors open 5pm, rodeo at 7:30pm. This one never gets old.
  • Specht's Store — a 100-year-old Texas landmark on Specht Road. Locals only know about this one.
  • John T. Floore's Country Store in Helotes — over 60 years of Texas music legends. Check their calendar.
  • Gruene Hall in New Braunfels — built in 1878. Texas' oldest dancehall. If you haven't been, fix that even Kacey Musgraves thought it was cool enough to come by and play a show.
  • The Monday Market at Bulverde — 1st and 3rd Monday, 10am–3pm on Bulverde Road. Local vendors, good finds.
